What resolution do you use?

The quick answer: Generally the resolution of our JPEG files is equivalent to 4000 dpi. The longer answer: Since we aren't scanning, but using high quality digital cameras to capture the slide image it would be more accurate to speak in megapixels instead of dpi. The camera captures 15 megapixels, and after cropping your JPEG files will be at least 3000 pixels on the shortest side.

What is the difference between getting my pictures on CDs or on a DVD?

We like to use DVDs for all orders whenever possible. DVD Slide Show Movies of Slides can only be sent on a DVD (they are too big for a CD). A DVD-Rom disk is one that has computer files on it and can be read in your computer the same as a CD-Rom disk. If you order the DVD Slide Show Movie then we will create a single DVD that contains the movie and also the JPEG files.

How do I know if my computer can read a DVD-Rom disk?

Take any DVD movie that you have at home (that you normally watch on your TV with a DVD player) and place it into your computer's CD drive. If the drive is also a DVD drive the movie will probably begin to play, or you will be able to access the disk the same way you would a CD (From My Computer on Windows or as a mounted drive on Mac OS X). Most newer computers do have DVD-Rom drives. All DVD-Rom drives can also read CDs (more info)

What if my computer doesn't have a DVD-Rom drive? Can I still get JPEG files?

Yes! Simply let us know on the order form or send us an email and we will send you a CD with your JPEG files on it. If you have ordered the DVD Slide Show Movie you will still receive a DVD which you can watch on your television. For your computer you will use the CD(s). Since a CD holds significantly fewer images there is a $10 charge for needing CDs.

What is the difference between your services: JPEG Files and DVD Slide Show Movie?

We strive to keep our website and pricing simple. We only offer two different services: JPEG Files and DVD Slide Show Movies. The confusion seems to be that the DVD Slide Show Movie also includes the JPEG Files. To keep it simple: If you just want JPEG files of your slides to email to people, put online or make prints (etc) and do not want to watch your slides on a TV, then choose the JPEG Files service. If you also want to watch your slides as a slide show on your TV then choose the DVD Slide Show Movie Service. Both of them include JPEG files.

Do you offer local drop-off and pick-up?

Yes, we do. If you are local to the Charlottesville, Virginia area feel free to deliver your slides in person to save time and shipping costs.

Do you take international orders?

Yes, we do. If you can get your slides to us we will get them (and a disk) back to you. Expect the return shipping to be approximately the same as what you pay to send them.

How can I pay you?

We will send you an updated invoice after we receive and count your slides. Invoices may be paid by credit card (international orders are fine, but we don't accept American Express). You may also pay us by check or money order made out to In A Flash, LLC. For personal checks we will wait for them to clear before returning your slides.

I want to digitize my own slides, do you have any advice for me?

Yes! Start by reading the Pros and Cons located on our How and Why page. If you still want to do them yourself we highly recommend sorting through your slides somehow first to save yourself time, especially if you are scanning. Find a projector (ebay has many varieties) and have an old fashioned slide show. Set up a tripod and your digital camera and snap quick pictures of each image so you have a digital record of what is on each roll or carousel. These will not be high quality duplications, but will be better than nothing! Once you have thinned your slide collection down to the ones you'd like to spend more time on you can look into a Slide Copier or a scanner, preferably one with a batch feeder (we hear the Nikon scanners are good).
